There is something incredibly special about filming a wedding in Italy. The landscapes, architecture, light, food and atmosphere give every celebration its own unmistakable character. From countryside estates surrounded by olive groves to historic cities and intimate celebrations beneath the Italian sun, Italy offers an incredible backdrop for a wedding film.
I’m Dan, a UK-based destination wedding videographer creating natural, cinematic and story-led wedding films throughout Italy and Europe. Having travelled to Italy several times for weddings and couple shoots, including Tuscany, Umbria, Matera, Sicilly and Venice, I love documenting celebrations in a way that feels relaxed, honest and completely personal to the people at the centre of them.
Italy is one of those places that almost feels made for weddings. The architecture, old streets, countryside, food, warm evenings and slightly slower pace of everything create an atmosphere that's difficult to replicate anywhere else. Having travelled to Italy multiple times to film weddings, it's somewhere I'd happily return to again and again.
Every part of Italy feels different, and that is one of the things I love most about filming there. I’ve travelled to Tuscany for a beautiful Italian wedding surrounded by rolling countryside, to Bari in Puglia for a celebration filled with incredible architecture and atmosphere, and to Venice for an unforgettable full-day couple shoot through one of the most recognisable cities in the world.
Those experiences have given me the opportunity to film Italy in very different ways, from quiet intimate moments to huge celebrations and adventurous portraits through historic streets. Wherever in Italy you are planning to marry, my approach remains the same: allowing the day to unfold naturally while creating a film that brings you straight back to how it actually felt.
My approach to wedding filmmaking is built around storytelling rather than staging. I want your film to feel like your wedding, not a production created around it. I work discreetly throughout the day, capturing the conversations, reactions, movement and little moments happening naturally around me while also making the most of the incredible surroundings Italy provides.
Your vows, speeches and the voices of the people closest to you become part of the story, woven together with the atmosphere and imagery from the day. The result is a cinematic wedding film that is beautiful to watch but, more importantly, feels personal to you and becomes more valuable as the years pass.
Italy gives couples an extraordinary variety of places to celebrate. Tuscany has its vineyards, villas and rolling countryside; Puglia offers beautiful masserias, historic towns and Mediterranean landscapes; while Venice is unlike anywhere else in the world, with its canals, narrow streets and extraordinary architecture creating opportunities for completely unique imagery.
I've been fortunate enough to create work in all three, including travelling to Venice with one of my couples for a dedicated shoot following their wedding at the Roman Baths in Bath. Experiences like these are exactly why I love destination filmmaking. It's an opportunity to explore somewhere incredible with my couples and create something that feels completely different from an ordinary wedding film.
Planning a destination wedding means bringing together suppliers, venues and guests from different places, so having people around you who are comfortable travelling is important. I’m based in the UK but regularly travel internationally for weddings, and I keep the process as straightforward as possible from the initial enquiry through to arriving in Italy and filming your celebration.
Whether you're travelling from the UK, the United States or elsewhere in the world to marry in Italy, I can work alongside your planner, photographer and venue team to make sure filming fits naturally into the day. My aim is for you to enjoy the experience without feeling like you're constantly being directed or pulled away from your guests.
No two destination weddings I've filmed have felt the same, and that's exactly how I believe it should be. The location might be spectacular, but ultimately the people, relationships and moments are what give a wedding film its meaning. Italy simply provides an incredible setting in which that story can unfold.
